Meet Our Horses

Trademark - Trademark has had a full and exciting life before settling down with us. He was born at Canequin Morgan Horse Farm in NY and trained and shown in AMHA shows in saddle seat. He was successful in this venue, but was then trained to drive. He was sold and moved to Florida, where he competed as an ADS pleasure horse in a pair. A terrible driving accident proved too much for Mark to ever be driven again. The only scars he bears are in his mind. He was then sold to a family in NY for a child's mount. Mark was quite a handful in those days, proving a very difficult ride for the young girl. Persistence and training won out and eventually he was very successful in Pony Club and three phase eventing. He has competed twice at the National Pony Club Rally for Combined Training. When his owner had to move away for college, she came to me offering Mark for the program. We welcomed him with open arms. He is a knowlegeable and often challenging ride, but is dependable and great fun! Mark will be 32 in 2010, he is the beauty of the barn and knows it!

Minnie - Minnie was a family horse for most of her life in a town close by. She was bought by a middle aged woman as a yearling for a training project. With the help of a trainer, she worked with Minnie to make her a good all-around horse. She kept Minnie until she was 18 years old, when she contacted me. The woman was now having second thoughts about riding in her golden years and had no one to ride with. She felt Minnie still had alot to offer, but was having trouble parting with her. We agreed to let Minnie come live here with us and learn a new skill, lessons. Minnie had never jumped before, just was a good riding horse. We taught her what she needed to teach new riders and now she is the most solid jumper in the barn. She also does basic dressage. She is unflappable and willing to do just about anything. In 2009, Minnie is 25 years old and still packing beginner riders around in lessons and shows.

Firewalker - "Fire" is a great example of versatility in the miniature horse breed. He was born in 1984 at Flying W Farms in Ohio. His owners recognized his show potential and began to promote him on the National Circuit. In 1986, Fire was an AMHA National Top 10 winner in halter. The next year, in 1987, at the AMHR National Show, He was the Reserve Champion Pleasure Driving horse. In her write up of the National Show in the Pony Journal, National Judge Cherry DeSpain-Wilson wrote that "Flying W Farms Firewalker stood out as one of the most outstanding driving horses of the show". He was then retired, supposedly to stud, although he was never bred, probably due to his large 34" size.

Now Fire teaches others. He has been leased to 4-H for many years where he not only was a super halter and driving horse, but won many jumping classes. He also is in the horseback riding program, where four and five year old children learn the basics of horsemanship and equitation on him at the walk and trot. For a few years, he was driven and shown by Nancy Gillen, a quadraplegic with a love for horses. Fire allowed her the freedom of independence around horses. With a custom cart and special reins, she was able to show him in open classes as well as classes for the disabled. In 1999, Nancy and Fire were the ESMHA High Point Physically & Mentally Challenged Driving Champions as well as the Reserve Champions in the Open Country Pleasure Division. Fire is now teaching Nancy's Granddaughter to ride!

Bounce - Bounce is a 23 year old palomino QH gelding. He is a long time veteran of the pleasure show ring and is dependable in every way at shows. At home he is the slow and steady of the barn. Even with his huge size, he takes the smallest of riders safely around the ring. Bounce is now back in the show ring, strutting his stuff, even over fences, which is a new skill for him! See the "Events" page to read his recent wins!

Nott and Gift - These are our trail horse pros! Nott and Gift are Icelandic horses, both imported from Iceland. They are both 5 gaited and give an amazing smooth ride. They are always dependable on the trail, energetic and fun to take to trail trials, hunter paces, parades, or out with groups of friends. These two belong to Harriett Rubins of Honeoye, NY/Santa Fe, NM, but everyone enjoys them!

Julio - We welcome this guy back with open arms! Julio came to us as an unbroke 4 year old in 2003. He graduated from the training program and progressed as a lesson horse. He is a 15.3 hh, 10 yr old pinto gelding. He was purchased in 2006 by our assistant trainer, Kristin Curtice, who then moved to the deep south, taking her horse with her! Happily, Kristin and Julio have returned. They are both working here at the barn again and a new group of students are having fun with Julio! Check him out this summer at the shows!

Buddy - Another pet of Kristin Curtice, Buddy is a 5 yr old, 14 hh black gelding with a blaze. He is still green and young, but is quiet and loveable. Two qualities we look for in lesson horses! He is a fun ride for all ages of students and learning the ropes quickly! He is proving to be a great 4-H type prospect with his good looks and disposition.

Sprinkles - Margot of Sunnybank (Sprinkles) Sprinkles is our newest addition to the lesson program. She is a 1992 POA mare, 13.2 hh. She has been there and done that, a successful show pony in english, western and driving! She also likes to do games and trail ride. Sprinkles is a lovely mover and has good form over fences. Watch for her this year, showing under one of our smaller riders!

Baab - Introducing our Farm Mascot, Baab the Icelandic sheep. Baab was our bottle baby from spring 2009 who we raised from 5 days old. He does not know he is a sheep. Since he grew up with our border collie, Lucy, Baab only knows how to herd, not be herded! He loves people and now lives with the miniature horses.
